The
Uniqueness of Red Rock:
Accomplishments Through the Ages
Red Rock was the
first Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in Oklahoma to be nationally
accredited by CARF – the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation
Facilities.
Red Rock
was chosen as one of the twelve best CMHCs in the United States by the
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and the Public Citizen
Research Group in a rating of all state programs.
Red Rock was the first CMHC in Oklahoma to have a
full time counselor to work with persons affected by HIV/AIDS. This
program has continued to grow and now has a staff of 21. A full-range
of clinical service, a residential facility, vocational training,
outreach, prevention/education, and anonymous HIV testing are major
components of the HIV/AIDS program in Oklahoma County.
Red Rock was the first in Oklahoma to alter from
traditional therapy to a psychosocial rehabilitation model of treatment
for the seriously mentally ill.
Achievement House, Oklahoma City’s Clubhouse, was
one of the first two in the state to receive certification by the
International Center for Clubhouse Development.
Red Rock had one of the first comprehensive
programs to provide counseling for individuals who had experienced rape,
sexual assault or sexual molestation.
Red Rock was the first to receive a contract from
the Department of Corrections to provide residential treatment for
seriously mentally ill inmates. This innovative program resulted in
international attention. Presentations were made at several major
conferences, including Philadelphia, Miami and Toronto, Canada.
Red Rock was the first CMHC in Oklahoma to have a
fully integrated computerized Management Information System (MIS).
Since 1982, information has been readily accessible to identify who
provided how much service to whom, under what program, at what cost,
reimbursed at what rate, using what source of funding.
Red Rock was featured as one of thirteen
outstanding creative programs across the United States by The National
Leadership Coalition on AIDS.
Instruments developed by Red Rock staff to measure
the potential for homicide and suicide lethality have been copy-righted
and are in widespread use across the country.
Red Rock was the first CMHC in central Oklahoma to
become federally certified under the Community Mental Health Act and its
later revisions.
Red Rock has had a licensed pharmacy on site in
Oklahoma City for over fifteen years. It provides psychotropic
medications for clients in all Red Rock locations.
Throughout its history Red Rock has been Number 1
in hours of service provided to members of racial and ethnic
minorities.
Park View Transitional Living Center was featured
in a publication of The National Interagency Council on The Homeless for
its endeavors in helping the homeless mentally ill.
Red Rock pioneered the Program of Assertive
Community Treatment (PACT) in Oklahoma, being one of the first two teams
in the state to provide this unique service to severely mentally ill
adults.
Red Rock has been recognized as The Agency of The
Year by the Oklahoma Association for Persons in Supported Employment.
Red Rock has been a full partner with three local
hospitals and two major hospital corporations in the development of two
separate HMO’s to link HMOS and mental health providers.
Red Rock’s Oklahoma City office is a rotation site
for residents from the University of Oklahoma Medical School’s
Department of Psychiatry.
Red Rock’s Positive Living Program received the
Organizational Service Award at a Statewide Conference on HIV/AIDS.
Red Rock was the first agency to respond to the
overwhelming needs of Oklahoma for a Children’s Crisis Stabilization
Unit. A new facility was constructed and opened in May of 2005.
Red Rock opened the first adult crisis
stabilization unit in Western Oklahoma, located in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Creekside in Chandler was the first residential
treatment center for the dually diagnosed (co-occurring mental health
and substance abuse disorders) in Oklahoma.
Red Rock is the first to provide an array of
services for the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) population
including mental health and substance abuse services and hosts an active
youth group, The Young Gay Lesbian Association (YGLA)
